“Rolleiflex + Velvia slide film. This combination has done wonders for me ever since I bought this camera on ebay three years ago. I was living in Vancouver at the time, and when I think back on that period, the first image that comes to mind is the ocean.
Oh, I miss it so much…I could see it from my bedroom! I could find it walking down the street!! I could dip my rainboots in it in the winter and jump in for an after-picnic swim in the spring!!! I could smell it, damnit!!!!
Living in Paris, I don’t get confronted to that much water nearly enough, and so that daytrip to Etretat, on the north-western coast of France, was such a joy on a wickedly windy Sunday last March. Introducing my oldest friend Cerise, who wears skirts the size of headbands, whatever the season. That was a really good day.”
“OCEANIC SECRETS – What the ocean carries at heart.
Whether it is sheer coincidence that my name “Marina” is connected with the theme “ocean” as it means coming from the sea, belonging to the sea or not I felt really flattered when I was asked to create a little piece of art for THE ATOMY.
Ever since I was I child I’ve been fascinated with the ocean, it’s creatures and fables as much as the overall mystery. To me ocean’s surface always seemed like a door to another world somewhere beyond the sea and I’m sure there are lots of secrets and wonderful things to discover.
The picture I’ve created is meant to portray a tiny part of the magic that happens underwater, it’s dedicated to the mermaids living in a golden palace surrounded by deep dark water…yes, I believe it has to be this way.”

The Atomy is now accepting submissions for our May issue. Our theme for May is “ocean.” We encourage all artists to interpret the theme in their own way; emotional seas, poetic oceans, photographs of beach explorations, art, prose, design, illustrations, music, film— explore the theme for yourself and be creative.
this is a picture I took of Hanauma Bay too long ago. sigh. anyway, ya'll should submit something.
haiku #72.
to: mart eden
you swallowed death in gulps
under a dark sea, searching
for streams of sunken light
from a decayed, desiccant life
and a rotted heart; that once,
forever, and never again,
loved passionately.
